Piece Lio

Hidden among the palms and pathways of the Lio Estate, Pièce Lio is one of those places you almost want to keep to yourself. It’s quiet, surrounded by jungle, and just far enough from El Nido town to feel like a true retreat, but close enough for dinner reservations, boutique shopping, or a beach day with no plans.

What made it stand out for us wasn’t just the eco-conscious build or tropical surroundings, it was how seamlessly everything worked. Monkeys swing through the trees, the beach is two minutes away, and the hotel sits within the El Nido-Taytay Managed Resource Protected Area, a conservation zone covering over 36,000 hectares of land and 54,000 hectares of marine waters.

We came here to slow down, and Pièce Lio delivered. Between the private balcony views, the record player spinning in the background, and the warm hospitality from the team, it felt like a reset button. Simple, calm, and easy to fall into.

The most convenient way to reach Pièce Lio is by flying into El Nido Airport with AirSwift. Upon arrival, a complimentary shuttle picks you up for a breezy one-minute drive straight to the hotel. Talk about the easy life.

Stay

Located just a 10-minute shuttle ride from El Nido town and a short walk to Lio Beach, Pièce Lio feels peaceful but connected. Restaurants, shops, and activities are within easy reach, yet the property itself remains calm and quiet.

We stayed in the Premier Studio with a private balcony that looked out onto thick, tropical greenery. At around 915 square feet, It was very spacious without being empty, and the layout made it easy to settle in and feel at home. The bathroom was equally roomy, with a generous walk-in shower and his and her sinks, although, let’s be honest, by the second day it was mostly hers. Shower amenities by Aesop, always a nice touch. It’s those small comforts that quietly make the stay smoother, especially when you’re unwinding after a long beach day.

The room came thoughtfully equipped with premium touches that made it feel like more than just a place to sleep. You’ve got a Marshall Action II Bluetooth speaker, Daikin air conditioning, and automatic blinds (available on higher floor rooms only). There’s also a vinyl record player, a Nespresso machine, SMEG kettle, Dyson hairdryer, and a fully stocked kitchenette complete with local snacks. The bathroom features a Japanese high-tech toilet, which, let’s be honest, still feels like a bit of a futuristic luxury every time.

Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of walking into a hotel bathroom and being greeted by a softly glowing toilet. There’s something about it, clean, futuristic, and weirdly welcoming, that makes you feel like you’ve arrived somewhere that pays attention to the little things.

Service throughout was smooth and genuinely warm. Jessica, the manager, made sure everything ran without a hitch. Rina greeted us with a smile and stayed helpful throughout. Jonathan and Ron, the drivers, made getting around effortless, Ron even helped us uncover local dinner spots.

The concierge team is available 24/7, but you likely won’t need much, they’ve thought through most things in advance. With umbrellas and bikes ready to go and shuttles always on time, everything runs with quiet efficiency.

design

When you first arrive, it all comes together in one wide visual sweep: a serene pool at the centre, open-air walkways connecting the rooms, and softly illuminated staircases weaving through lush greenery. The reception opens up into this main hub, modern, minimalist, and calm, giving you a clear sense of space without ever feeling overwhelming. It’s an architectural welcome that sets the tone for the rest of your stay.

Rooms at Pièce Lio are a thoughtful blend of modern Japanese minimalism and Palawan’s natural charm. Clean lines, warm wood tones, and just the right amount of texture give the space a calm, understated mood. It’s luxury without the flash.

The interiors were designed by EUDO Studio, a Manila-based studio known for merging modern design with local context. Their approach here balances simplicity with soul, creating spaces that feel both elevated and grounded in their surroundings.

The space feels fluid, designed in a way that works with you, not around you. There’s a natural flow to how you move through it, and you can tell that every detail has been placed with intention. One small example: the full-body mirror has its own spotlight angled just right, so when you’re checking your outfit before heading out, the lighting actually flatters you. It sounds minor, but it’s the kind of thing that separates good design from thoughtful design. Nothing worse than trying to get dressed in front of a mirror that throws a shadow over half your look.

Step outside and the design continues into the environment. With only 36 rooms and wide, open garden paths, there’s a sense of privacy and space that mirrors the 90,000-hectare protected landscape Pièce Lio sits in. You’re surrounded by one of the most biodiverse areas in the region, home to rare species, untouched forests, and vibrant marine life.

indulge

Mornings at Pièce Lio start slow. Breakfast is served in the intimate indoor dining space or directly to your room, ideal for enjoying it on your private balcony, surrounded by greenery. You can choose from a small but thoughtful range of options: Japanese breakfast classics paired with tropical fruits and Filipino flavours, a full English, American-style plates, or a simple Continental spread.

While Pièce Lio itself doesn’t have a restaurant, it’s well placed. We took the hotel shuttle to Piece of Sky in El Nido town for most of our meals. It was always an easy trip, and it gave us the flexibility to explore the local food scene without being tied to a hotel menu.

Just a two-minute walk away, Lio Beach offers everything from casual beachfront dining to local cafés, boutiques, and volleyball courts. You can take a slow stroll through the nearby art spaces, there’s no pressure to fill your day. You can cycle, hammock, journal, swim or do none of the above. And when you’re surrounded by this much natural beauty, even doing nothing feels like the point.

What we loved

What stood out most was the seamless blend of nature and design, you’re staying in a space that feels modern and elevated, but never disconnected from the natural beauty of Palawan. Waking up to a quiet canopy of green, with monkeys swinging in the trees outside our balcony, set the tone each morning.

Inside, the room was full of thoughtful touches: a record player, Japanese toilet, local snacks in the kitchenette and at 915 square feet, it felt more spacious than most city apartments.

The bathroom had a large walk-in shower and double sinks, which, if you’re travelling as a couple, gradually become hers anyway.

We appreciated the breakfast flexibility too, with options to dine in the calm indoor space or out on the balcony with the sun rising around you. And finally, the team at Pièce Lio made the stay what it was. From check-in to check-out, every interaction felt warm, helpful, and natural.

What to keep in mind

There’s no on-site restaurant, but Piece of Sky and other local spots are close and easily accessible. You won’t go hungry, but it’s worth planning a little ahead for lunch and dinner.

our take

Pièce Lio stuns immediately, not just when you arrive at reception, but even during the quiet drive through the estate grounds. That first turn onto the property feels like a shift, as if you’re being gently pulled into another world, far from the rush of El Nido town. It’s calm, green, and cinematic in a way that catches you off guard. First impressions here matter, especially because let’s be honest, sometimes hotels look amazing online but fall short in person. That wasn’t the case at all. Pièce Lio lives up to the pictures and then some. Would we return? Absolutely. Even if just for the scenery and that sense of deep jungle immersion, it’s more than enough to draw us back.
